ABOUT US
Program HistoryThe Yakama Nation Wildlife Program was initiated in 1981 along with the Yakama Nation Fisheries Program. Initial program efforts focused on big game and waterfowl management, and nuisance animal control. Today the program consists of 13 wildlife discipline projects and has been retitled as the Yakama Nation WIldlife, Range, & Vegetation Resources Management Program. Our program manages wildlife and habitats throughout the ecologically diverse, 1.2 million acre Reservation. As a Sovereign Nation under this Treaty, the Yakama Nation remains focused on our responsibility as stewards and protectors of the land and its valuable resources. In this spirit, the Wildlife Program has a proven history of effective natural resource management, providing scientifically-based but culturally-informed methods and strategies for wildlife management within the Reservation and Ceded Lands of the Yakama People.
